Bible Memory Verses for Spring

It was Shakespeare who wrote, "April hath put a spirit of youth in everything."

Spring is a wonderful season in which we celebrate birth and new life. It reminds us that winters are temporary, and that cold winds will always give way to warm air and summer breezes. Spring is a time for hope and the promise of new beginnings.

With those sentiments in mind, let's explore several passages of Scripture that help us capture and commemorate the loveliness of spring.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

When spring hits, you know that love is in the air—or soon will be. And there are few lines of poetry or prose in the history of the written word that have captured the essence of love better than these words from the apostle Paul:

⁴ Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. ⁵ It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. ⁶ Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. ⁷ It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
⁸ Love never fails.

1 John 4:7-8

Speaking of love, this passage from the apostle John reminds us that God is the ultimate Source of all expressions of love. These verses also connect with the "new birth" element of spring:

⁷ Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. ⁸ Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

In many locations throughout the world, the season of spring offers soothing weather and lovely blossoms from plants and trees of all kinds. Spring is a time for appreciating the beauty of nature.

Matthew 6:28-30

One of my favorite things about Jesus' method of teaching is the way He used physical objects —including elements of nature—to illustrate the truths He expressed. You can almost see the flowers as you read Jesus' teaching on why we should refuse to worry:

²⁸ “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. ²⁹ Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. ³⁰ If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?

Hebrews 11:3

Finally, as we ponder the blessings of spring—both natural and emotional—it's important to remember that all good things come from God. He is the source of our blessings in all seasons.

By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.
